Georgios Ponirakis   Research Associate in Medicine

I am a medical researcher and educator specializing in corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) as a diagnostic and prognostic tool for neurodegenerative diseases. My work focuses on diabetic neuropathy, dementia, schizophrenia, and systemic diseases, using CCM as a non-invasive biomarker for early detection and disease progression.

At Weill Cornell Medicine–Qatar, I have co-authored over 100 peer-reviewed publications in high-impact journals and contributed to research projects funded by Qatar National Research Fund and Hamad Medical Corporation, securing over $1.2 million in research funding. My research aims to bridge the gap between academic discovery and clinical application, improving diagnostic accuracy and patient outcomes.

Beyond research, I lead CCM training programs for clinicians and researchers and mentor medical students in advanced neurodiagnostic techniques. I am always open to collaborations in neurology, ophthalmology, and medical imaging research.
