Dr. Sharma is a distinguished leader and educator who, throughout his career, has demonstrated excellence in leadership, administration, clinical activities, mentoring and teaching. Dr. Sharma currently serves as Chief of Emergency Medicine at New York Presbyterian Queens.
Dr. Sharma has also improved care for thousands of patients at NYP Queens in every aspect of clinical care through his focus on sepsis, STEMI, stroke and trauma care. Over the last year, Dr. Sharma has demonstrated outstanding leadership in guiding his team through the COVID-19 pandemic. He serves on several national committees including the NY ACEP Practice Management Committee and the Association of Academic Chair in Emergency Medicine (AACEM) Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Task Force. He also serves as an oral boards examiner for the American Board of Emergency Medicine and is a frequently invited speaker. Most recently, Dr. Sharma has given several invited regional, national and international lectures on lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Sharma completed his training in Emergency Medicine at NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, where he served as chief resident. He subsequently joined the faculty of NYP-Brooklyn Methodist Hospital where he served in several leadership roles including clerkship director and associate quality director. Dr. Sharma joined NYP Queens in 2008, initially serving as associate residency director and vice chairman prior to becoming Chief in 2016. He has been awarded Emergency Medicine teaching attending of the year in three different residency programs including NYP Brooklyn Methodist Hospital, Maimonides Medical Center and NYP Queens. Over the course of his career, Dr. Sharma has helped train more than 100 emergency physicians. He continues to mentor his graduates who practice throughout the United States and abroad.
