Overview

abstract

  • The American Society for Reproductive Medicine recently published an updated müllerian anomalies classification titled the ASRM Müllerian Anomalies Classification 2021 (ASRM MAC 2021). The aims of this updated classification are to improve familiarity with and identification of müllerian anomalies, enhance communication between clinicians and researchers, and to improve clinical care. Notable additions to the ASRM MAC 2021 include the replacement of numbered category labels with a standard label that describes the anomaly (i.e., Müllerian Agenesis, Bicornuate Uterus), the addition of three new categories (Longitudinal Vaginal Septum, Transverse Vaginal Septum, and Complex Anomalies), and the creation of an interactive educational tool available online. In this video, we provide a tutorial for how providers, learners, and patients can navigate and utilize ASRM MAC 2021 to develop a differential diagnosis, compare a patient's presentation with exam and imaging findings, and ultimately assist in correctly classifying, diagnosing, and treating müllerian anomalies using two example patient cases. Clinicians who may encounter müllerian anomalies will benefit from the ASRM MAC 2021 and the associated interactive website.
