Building an Inclusive Practice Within Regional Anesthesia and Acute Pain Medicine.
Review
Overview
abstract
Building an inclusive health care practice is essential for safe, high quality, and equitable acute pain management for all. In the practice of regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine (RAAPM), there are multiple studies showing the presence of health care disparities in perioperative pain management. This review focuses on the disparities in the practice of RAAPM and the importance of diversity and inclusion in reducing disparities, improving acute pain management, and promoting better overall patient outcomes. We also highlight solutions and policies to reduce acute pain disparities that can be undertaken by clinicians, health organizations, medical societies, and medical journals.
