Unlocking the Potential of Big Data and Artificial Intelligence in Regional Anesthesiology and Acute Pain Medicine.
Review
Overview
abstract
Advances in computing and technology have enabled big data research to transform the evaluation of regional anesthesia and acute pain medicine. Traditional randomized controlled trials, while rigorous, are limited by strict criteria, cost, and lack of real-world applicability. Big data studies utilize large, diverse datasets from clinical records, registries, and administrative sources, allowing for broader analysis of patient outcomes, including rare complications. The 6Vs-volume, variety, velocity, veracity, value, and variability-define big data's strengths and challenges. By complementing traditional research, big data enhances generalizability and supports more comprehensive, real-world insights into perioperative care.
