The Lifecycle and Role of Faculty-Trainee Relationships in Physician Development and Wellness: A Framework Grounded in the AAMC Faculty-Resident Compact. Academic Article uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • Faculty-trainee relationships profoundly shape physician professional development and well-being. To guide these formative interactions, in 2006, the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) published the Compact Between Resident Physicians and Their Teachers, outlining 10 paired commitments for residents and faculty. This paper focuses on the Compact as an organizing framework, starting with introducing the trainee and faculty commitments, and then presents best practices to operationalize its principles in radiology practices. We propose best practices for utilizing the Compact locally to foster dialog, support professional identity formation, and promote well-being across the continuum of medical education.
