Intrahepatic Ectopic Ovary Masquerading as a Liver Cyst in a Young Patient: Case Report and Review of the Literature. Article uri icon

Overview

abstract

  • Ectopic ovaries are an exceptionally rare clinical entity, with fewer than 50 cases documented in the literature to date. Proposed etiologies include postsurgical or postinflammatory implantation, associations with malignancy, and aberrant embryologic development. We present the second reported case of an intrahepatic ectopic ovary manifesting as a cystic abdominal mass, and notably the first case involving a patient aged 18 yr or younger.
