Dr. Chemaitelly is an Assistant Professor of Research in Population Health Sciences at Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q). Her research focuses on studying the epidemiology of infectious diseases using different epidemiological research methods, advanced statistical techniques, and mathematical modeling. Her primary interest is on promoting a deeper understanding of the epidemiology of respiratory infections such as COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus, and influenza, as well as viral hepatitis, and sexually transmitted infections including gonorrhea, chlamydia, and herpes simplex viruses.

Dr. Chemaitelly is an expert in vaccine, therapeutic, and natural infection effectiveness studies, as well as infectious disease meta-analytic studies. She led a World Health Organization (WHO) report on the epidemiology of hepatitis C virus in the Middle East and North Africa and contributed to another WHO report on the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections in the same region. Her research has been instrumental in informing infectious disease epidemiology, policy programming, and resource allocation both in the Middle East and North Africa region and globally.

Dr. Chemaitelly has a distinguished record of high-impact scholarship, having published over 150 research studies. Many of her publications appear in prestigious journals such as the New England Journal of Medicine, Nature Medicine, JAMA, Lancet Infectious Diseases, Lancet Microbe, Lancet Global Health, Lancet HIV, and Nature Communications. Her research has garnered significant attention in international press and media, including coverage by the New York Times, Washington Post, and CNN.

Dr. Chemaitelly holds a Ph.D. in Epidemiology and Population Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and an Executive Master's in Health Economics, Policy, and Management from the London School of Economics.
