Robert C Young   Professor Emeritus of Psychiatry

Dr. Young’s clinical work has been focused on the nature and management of depression and bipolar disorders, particularly in old-age patients.  He has related expertise in assessment, diagnosis, psychopharmacology, and convulsive therapy.

He has been a consistently NIMH-funded investigator and principal investigator in studies of treatment of late-life depression and bipolar disorders; these have included multi-center protocols. He has also been supported by an NIMH Independent Investigator Award and by center grants for research and training in geriatric mood disorders.   He has been author/co-author of more than 140 papers, in addition to numerous textbook chapters and other teaching materials.  

Dr. Young has served as a teacher and mentor to medical students, residents and fellows in psychiatry, and to staff in other disciplines.
