Research

research overview

  • Research in the Morales lab focuses on understanding the physiology of microbial multicellular communities formed by single or multi-species members. Our research group aims at deciphering and targeting novel metabolic processes mediating Enterococcus faecalis surface migration, invasion and pathogenicity.   In addition, we are interested in defining the structural dynamics and spatiotemporal regulation of invading enterococcal communities and their interactions with other neighboring members of the gut microbiome. Our long-term goal is to understand the metabolic programs that endow non-motile bacteria with potent invasive and pathogenic capacity.
